Holistic education
As commonly known, the left brain is instrumental for language, comprehension and analytical thinking, whereas the right brain controls creativity, spatial understanding and perception. At Ahavah, we believe in a holistic education to help the child with both left brain and right brain development, promoting creativity, divergent thinking and exploration. These principles form the foundation of what we offer during school terms and in our school holiday enrichment, providing continuity in learning even when school is out.
Higher-order thinking skills
These skills equip the child to analyze, evaluate and make connections with information instead of just memorizing it. While challenging for the child to learn, they are important for developing critical thinking and analytical skills, which will help the child a long way in preparing them for secondary school education. We integrate these thinking exercises into daily activities and our school holiday enrichment, so that each child is continually encouraged to reason and inquire.
Infusing play
At Ahavah, we believe in infusing play into our curriculum. Play helps the child develop communication and language skills, social interaction skills, as well as supporting learning and well-being. Play also stimulates cognitive development, enhances problem-solving skills and encourages imagination and creativity. These experiences are reinforced through our engaging school holiday enrichment, where learning through play continues during the holidays. It unlocks opportunities for the child to develop independence, perseverance and turn-taking skills, supporting them to negotiate, build relationships and make connections with one another.
Academic Support
English and Chinese Languages
Other than assessment work, we provide an environment promoting reading and writing, as well as opportunities to express themselves through speech & drama, and public speaking. For the Chinese language, we will create opportunities for the child to appreciate the Chinese language, to listen to and speak more Chinese. We hope to groom confident speakers, who can articulate well and become leaders of our future generations.
Maths
For the lower primary level, we offer games like manipulatives and dominoes to help the child with visualization and modelling, as a strategy to help them develop number sense, understanding Maths concepts and develop problem solving skills early in their learning. We continue these interactive methods in our school holiday enrichment, extending these approaches into the holiday period.
